As a consultant I work closely with senior management teams and staff to enable social enterprises and charities to:

  • Become more financially sustainable through fundraising and income generation

  • Define strategic aims and develop business plans

  • Maximise operational efficiency through reviewing and implementing processes and systems

  • Strengthen approaches to project management

This can include interim management roles to provide management expertise during a time of transition.  My previous interim roles include chief executive of the Peckham Settlement, consultant for Social Enterprise London and operations manager for Economic Change CIC.

What this looks like in practice can include:

  • Identifying and setting up new ways of generating income

  • Planning and delivering fundraising campaigns (both capital and revenue)

  • Improving financial planning skills e.g. realistic budgets, accurate cash flow forecasts

  • Improving operational systems and processes within an organisation

  • Strengthening project management skills in a whole range of practical ways

  • Facilitating sessions with boards and senior managers to bring renewed focus

  • Working with management to draft practical, useful and clear business plans

  • Producing Job Descriptions and Person Specifications to recruit and retain the right people

  • Providing support for tackling tricky management situations (e.g. underperformance, grievances, redundancies)

  • Identifying the right staffing structure

  • Simplifying processes of data capture e.g. project monitoring and reporting, enquiry processes

  • Organising the outsourcing of operations e.g. warehousing, website management

  • Implementing better ways to get stuff done
